Today we are delighted to offer for sale a rare antique WMF figural toilet mirror.

WMF (formerly known as "Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik") is a German tableware manufacturer, founded in 1853 in Geislingen an der Steige. By 1900 they were the world's largest producer and exporter of household metalware, mainly in the Jugendstil, or Art Nouveau style, designed in the WMF Art Studio under Albert Mayer, sculptor and designer, who was director from 1884 to 1914.

This beautiful tabletop vanity mirror, model no. 29, dates to circa 1906 and is stamped with the maker's marks on one foot. This is a luxurious piece, made of silver-plated pewter, and designed in the sinuous Art Nouveau style. The piece features a standing female figure with outstretched arms clasping a flower-adorned semi-circle frame with round swivel mirror with flower heads to crest, her flowing dress forming the tripodal base. The sensuous maiden has a lovely face and Gibson Girl hairstyle so evocative of the Art Nouveau period.

The mirror presents beautifully and is in excellent antique condition, with minor display wear, minimal scuffing, and patina commensurate with age. There is minimal loss to silver-plating and minor surface tarnish. The mirror itself has minor scuffing and appears to be a later-replacement as often is the case with original WMF-supplied mirrors which tended to oxidize. The mirror frame is missing one mounting screw on its back; the pivoting mechanism is working order. Please review all photos before purchasing.
