Today we are delighted to offer for sale a beautiful antique Gildea & Walker transferware fruit bowl!

This exquisite, late 19th century piece is a creation of Gildea & Walker, earthenware and porcelain manufacturer at the Dale Hall Works, Longport, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, England, in operation from 1881-1885. The bowl is nicely crafted and made of earthenware in a square, lobed shape. It features a Victorian Aesthetic Turquerie/Chinoiserie-inspired design which also has Japanese Imari influences. The design is done in rust red, cobalt blue and gilt transferware and features an inner scene with a bird perched on a branch of bamboo with flowering dogwood on its left. Under the bird is a scene printed in a frame design which depicts houses and two boats on a lake with the sun setting behind the mountains and an island of trees in the foreground. The sides of the bowl feature scenes with flying birds and low, Bonsai-like trees, with ornate floral and geometric borders. The piece is marked on the bottom with the maker's marks and date code.

The bowl presents well and is in good antique condition, with minor wear and patina commensurate with age and use. There is surface wear, light crazing, and some darkening/toning of glaze in areas. One small chip is present on rim. No other chips or cracks noted. Please review all photos before purchasing.
