Battery recommendation
- If you wish to run this energiser on a 12v battery then we recommend using a deep cycle battery. Also called a ‘leisure’ or ‘deep-draw-down’ battery.
- A deep-cycle battery can run flat without reducing the lifespan of the battery; however, a car battery (also called an ‘initial surge battery’) can also be used, providing it is not allowed to run too low on charge.
- Remember, all batteries will stop charging your fence before they are completely flat.
- This energiser has an average current of 450mA (4.8J).
- A 12ah battery will provide approximately 26 hours of charge (12,000/450).
A 6ah battery will provide approximately 13 hours of charge (6,000/450)
- These times will vary depending on a range of factors, including fence quality and excessive vegetation.
- We strongly recommend connecting a solar charger to your battery, to ensure maximum voltage and subsequently maximum energy in your fence is maintained.
When should a 12-volt battery, connected to an electric fence, be recharged?
All energisers are essentially transformers and will convert the 12-volt input energy to the much higher voltage energy that your fence runs on. If your battery loses 20% of its energy, then your fence will lose 20% of its energy. Most energisers will continue to operate until about 9 volts when it will cut off.
When using a battery on an electric fence, it is best to keep your battery as close to full charge as possible, to avoid a drop in energy output in your electric fence. A solar charger is the best way to ensure your battery is kept at or near full charge.
