ALLIUM HOOKERI var. MULIENSE, YELLOW HOOKER'S ONION

One of the most attractive yellow-flowering alliums. This beautiful and rare natural variety is native to mountain meadows and forest margins of south-west Sichuan and north-west Yunnan in China. The plant produces small bulbs with fleshy rhizomes and tends to form small colony. The foliage is broad with 8-9 leaves to 40 cm long, more closely resemble hemerocallis leaves than an allium. The brilliant yellow flowers create hemispherical to spherical flower head 8-10 cm in diameter held on stalks up to 40- 50 cm tall. This ornamental onion is distinguished by an exceptionally long flowering period from June to October. Great and valuable plant for borders and containers. An excellent cut flower.
