Victorinox is a Swiss company, one of the most famous knife manufacturers in the world.

 The name derives from English: Victoria - proper name and French: inoxydable - stainless.

The beginning of the production of Victorinox brand knives was given by Karl Elsener in 1884's. In 1891's,

 he became the main supplier of knives for the Swiss Army.

 In June 1897's, the "Swiss Officer's Knife" and "Sports Knife" were patented.

These knives became famous and very popular with their emblem - a 

cross on a shield - which was adopted as the emblem of the company since 1909's. 

In the same year, after the death of his mother, 

Elsener named the company - "Victoria" (Victoria), in her honor.

In 1921, after the transition in the production of knives from ordinary hardened steel 

to the production of stainless steel, 

the company was renamed as Victorinox ("Victoria" + "Inox").

From the beginning of 1989's, the company began to produce Swiss Army watches, 

and in 1999's the range of manufactured products was expanded with the beginning 

of a production division that makes bags and suitcases.

In 2001's, the production of all kinds of knives, including household knives, was started.

In 2005's, Victorinox acquired the capital of the rival company, manufacturer of military knives, Wenger.
