Kingwood Characteristics

A member of the rosewood group (Dalbergia genus). Very hard, very dense, and very colorful. Kingwood cuts, turns and polishes with ease.  A Heavy and Hard wood with fine texture and moderate workability.  Very durable and rot resistant.  Kingwoods high density can be difficult to work with and will have a moderate blunting effect on cutters.  Unlike other rosewoods Kingwood is not listed in the IUCN as being threatened.
