Debby Boone (b.1956) is an American singer & actress. At age 14, she began recording & touring with her parents & 3 sisters as The Pat Boone Family & later as The Boones or Boone Girls. Primarily gospel music, the sisters also released covers of secular pop music. The Boones hit the USA Billboard AC Chart with When the Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes ('75) & Hasta Mañana ('77). Boone’s 1st solo single You Light Up My Life ('77) was the biggest hit of the ‘70s, hitting #1 for 10 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 & #4 on the Country Singles charts. It won her a Grammy Award for Best New Artist & an American Music Award for Favorite Pop Single. Her acting debut was in the ’78 TV musical adaptation of The Magi. Boone's wholesome persona contrasted with the image-conscious pop-music industry, leading her career in different music directions. With crossover success, she began to focus on country music & had hits with My Heart Has a Mind of Its Own ('79), #1 Country hit Are You on the Road to Lovin' Me Again ('80), Perfect Fool ('81), & It'll Be Him ('81). Boone then turned to contemporary Christian music, winning 2 GMA Dove Awards & 2 Grammys for album With My Song ('80). Subsequent Christian albums were all successful. She headlined 2 TV music specials - The Same Old Brand New Me (‘80) & One Step Closer (‘82). In ‘81 she made her stage debut in the musical Seven Brides for Seven Brothers & has remained an occasional stage musical actress. In ‘84 she starred in the TV movie Sins of the Past (a Top 10 Nielsen hit). Christmas album Home For Christmas (’89) boasted a duet with her mother-in-law Rosemary Clooney, on the song White Christmas. Reflections Of Rosemary (2005) is a fond tribute to her & features songs performed by Clooney, as well as others which Boone felt showed her as the person she knew. 2011 saw an album & concert tour called Swing This! (celebrating the swing music & culture of ’60s Las Vegas). Boone continues to record & perform.
