Notes: 4 pages (complete). A very, VERY RARE copy of this short-lived satirical newspaper, published in Cape Town. This edition is most famous for its cartoon, that shows the radical proponent of local democracy John Molteno as a bull in the China Shop of the British Colonial Government. Moderate allies of John Molteno are shown unnerved such as Saul Solomon (of publishing house fame) in background and William Porter prostrate. British imperial figures standing behind counter are Governor PE Wodehouse and Sir Richard Southey. The cartoon was one of the most famous and important, and mischievous, of the time in the Colony. The front page has a stamp from a library and a numerical annotation. The newspaper is held in a red stiff boarded folder (with a label on the front). The paper is creased, worn, marked. It is benign. It is also still effective, clean, clear, healthy (considering the age and the use), fascinating. fk. Our orders are shipped using tracked courier delivery services.
