Beautiful Victorian Art Deco Style Cast Iron Fireplace surround, bought from Seymours Fireplaces, 91 Albert Road, Southsea, Portsmouth in 1994/95. Seymours is a small family run independent business that is still trading today.
The fireplace was professionally restored before we bought it. When we bought it, we were told that the fireplace surround was original late 19th century but that the tiles inserts were modern. We thought that the tiles perfectly enhanced the tulip design in the cast iron. There are no cracks in the tiles.
It is in the same condition as when we bought it, but the firebricks at the rear (see picture 4) were damaged when it was removed from our house in Southsea. These could be easily replaced.
We had hoped to reuse it, but it doesn't fit with the decor in our current house so since 1998, the fireplace has been in storage.
The mantlepiece is 40.5ins or 103 cm wide and 7ins or just under 18cm deep. The fireplace is 46ins or 117cm high. As shown on the drawing the hole to fit it at the rear needs to be 30ins wide and 30.5ins high.
