Kreolenblut, to a libretto by Ignaz Schnitzer and Emerich von Gatti, premiered in Hamburg at the Neues Operettenhaus Theatre on December 25, 1910.

"After the death of his father in 1867 [Heinrich Berté] moved with his brother Emil to Vienna, studying with Hellmesberger, Fuchs and Bruckner at the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde Conservatory and becoming a fine pianist. After the success of his second ballet Die goldene Märchenwelt (Hofoper, 1893) he continued to compose for the stage, producing at least six ballets and a dozen operettas. His greatest success came with Das Dreimäderlhaus (Raimundtheater, 15 January 1916), an operetta using melodies by Schubert and based on a distorted version of his life.
