An alginate dressing with indications for use as a primary dressing for moderate to high exuding chronic wounds and acute wounds and for wounds with minor bleeding. Upon contact with wound exudate, the dressing gradually forms a firm moist gel which in turn is highly absorbant.

Kaltostat dressing is an absorbent, calcium sodium alginate (80% Ca and 20% Na) with a high Guluronic acid content. When in contact with wound exudate, calcium ions in the dressing exchange with sodium ions in the exudate causing the dressing totransform from a dry, fibrous state to a firm,moist gel. The dressing provides a moist environment helping to create optimal wound-healing conditions and maintains itsintegrity allowing for easy, atraumaticremoval. Kaltostat dressing is also designed to promote haemostasis, providing a matrix to support blood clot formation.
Kaltostat dressings can be folded or cut to the shape of the wound.Thin dressings can be used as a secondary dressing - placed over kaltostat dressings.
Suitable for:
- Chronic wound - leg ulcers, diabetic ulcers, pressure sores, fungating lesions
- Acute wounds - post surgical wounds, donor sites, abrasions, lacerations
