SELLING HERE TWO HISTORICAL MOUNTED WAR MAPS

Southwest Russia and the Caucasus, 14 August 1942-10 October 1942

Seen in these two maps the shining front line on the southern sector of the Eastern Front. between mid-August and mid-October 1942. The Caucasus, situated between the Black and Caspian Seas, was a strategically highly important region as it contained the oilfields and a huge pipeline that supplied the Red Army with much of its fuel. Control of the region was bitterly disputed between July 1942 and mid-1943. The battle for Stalingrad was the decisive battle of the war on the Eastern Front — and. possibly, the decisive battle of the war against Germany — and the primary obiective of the July 1942 German offensive in the south. The city was attacked by the Sixth Army on 19 August and by September had almost fallen, although at enormous cost
