Morganite is a part of the beryl family and it’s composition is beryllium aluminum silicate. Unlike Emerald Morganite is relatively free of inclusions. Its also been called the pink emerald. It forms hexagonal prism crystals. It’s a durable gemstone ( on Mohs scale of hardness 7.5 – 8) and has become more popular as engagement ring stone. The gem is pleochroic- when viewing the stone from different directions you can see slightly different colors. Morganite can be found in pink to orange pink colors. The color is due to the amounts of manganese in the stone. Morganite is believed to help with anxiety, heart issues and stress. It’s also associated with compassion, patience, love and innocence and with the zodiac sign Pisces.Morganite is the official gem of Madagascar, but most of it comes from Brazil. Other places include Mozambique, Afganistan and Namibia.
This gemstone called also as “pink emerald” or “rose beryl”, wears very well with its 7.5-8-point hardness on Mohs scale and has evolved into a beloved and favored engagement ring stone. Morganite stands out pleochroic, meaning that it appears in slightly different colors depending on which angle the gemstone is viewed. As for color shades Morganite varies from pink to orange pink. The color derives from the amounts of manganese in the stone.
