Up for auction is a hardbound book entitled “Notes on Colombia, taken in the years 1822-3. With an itinerary of the route from Caracas to Bogotá; and an appendix” by Richard Bache. Published by H.C. Carey & I. Lea, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1827.

Richard Bache writes about his trip to Colombia and Venezuela during the years 1822-1823. He was the son-in-law of Benjamin Franklin.

“Richard Bache (September 12, 1737 – April 17, 1811), born in Settle, West Riding of Yorkshire, England, immigrated to Philadelphia, in the colony of Pennsylvania, where he was a businessman, a marine insurance underwriter, and later served as Postmaster-General of the American Post Office.”

This book is 195 years old. An important historical piece of work and a very rare collectible first edition.

Professionally rebound with gilt lettering on the spine.

303 pages, folded map, folded plan.

Condition:  Good.  The covers are in excellent condition. No torn pages or handwriting on the pages.  Foxing throughout due to age. Pages 3-6 are loose. The fold out map has a very small tear on the right side. The text block has water stains though out. At the top of many of the pages are faint mold stains. Please view the photos.
