John Brooks B.J. Wexler Photo BTS OKC Pops Campaign Oklahoma Geeminy Christmas

This is a vintage 5x7 black and white photo of Oklahoma broadcasting legends B.J. Wexler and John Brooks.  In the photo, it appears that they are hosting a campaign for Oklahoma City Pops Symphony. This item came from the estate of Mr. Wexler.

B.J. Wexler was born and raised in Buffalo, New York.  While in college at the University of Buffalo, Wexler began working at the university radio station.  This led to a 50-year career in broadcasting, most of which were in Oklahoma.  In 1976, he became program director for KTOK radio in Oklahoma City.  Wexler also produced the Oklahoma Sooners football pre- and post-game broadcasts.  He joined the OETA television station in 1983.  He hosted the popular Saturday evening OETA Movie Club for 30 years (1988-2018).  In 2008, he received a Heartland Chapter Emmy Award.  He was also a major part of the OETA telethons to raise money to support the station's programming costs.  Wexler passed away in 2021.

John Brooks is a member of the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.  He was the voice of the Oklahoma Sooners off and on from 1974 to 1991 and Oklahoma City Blazers hockey from 1965-2005.  Brooks has been sports director at both KTOK Radio and KWTV.  Many Sooner fans love remembering his signature phrase "Geeminy Christmas!".
