DESCRIPTION:

This stunningly beautifully coloured PNC (with coin and stamp) is a commemorative issue for the '100th Anniversary of 'Snugglepot & Cuddlepie' (1918-2018)'.
The non-circulating legal tender (NCLT) limited release $1 coin has a colour depiction of 'Snugglepot & Cuddlepie' (two Gumnut Babies). To the right is a raised impression of a twig of Gumnuts and above them is the denomination.
The coin is housed in an insert inside and Australia Post commemorative Envelope with a $1 'Snugglepot & Cuddlepie' Stamp. The stamp is postmarked: First Day of Issue, 21 August 2018, Homebush NSW 2140.

These are truly much-loved classic Australiana characters. This PNC is limited to only 7,500, making it a highly collectable item.

BACKGROUND:

2016 marked a Centenary of the publication of May Gibbs' "Gumnut Babies" which is a much loved book which introduced Australian children to the Gumnut Babies, small imaginary inhabitants of the Australian bush.
2018 celebrated a Centenary of the publication "Tales of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie: their wonderful adventures" which was the first book of this additional series published in 1918.
Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, the gumnut babies, are the protagonists of the story and are modelled on the appearance of young Eucalyptus (gum tree) nuts. The female gumnut babies, however, have their hair, hats and skirts modelled on Eucalyptus flowers.
May Gibbs based some of the characters and scenery on the plants found in the bushland of Harvey, Western Australia, where she played as a child.
