This includes the first two issued coins in the series: Odin and Thor.

All of the coins in the Norse Gods Series are issued on 2 oz rimless blanks with an antique polish that creates matte visuals and the physical appearance of an ancient coin. The coins are high-relief specimens that have been struck several times by the Perth Mint under high pressure. This type of coining process results in a deeper field with greater visual depth to the design elements.

The obverse side of the 2016 2 oz Tuvalu Norse Gods Silver High Relief Coin bears a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is featured in this design in right-profile relief with the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara on her head.

Odin, like his Roman and Greek counterparts, would often disguise himself to interact with humanity and even other gods. While Zeus was known to take on different forms, Odin would often wear various masks with a hat and a green coat to disguise himself.  On the reverse face of 2016 2 oz Tuvalu Norse Gods Odin Silver High Relief Coins is a depiction of the King of Asgard, Odin. He is shown riding his powerful steed, Sleipnir. As he rides along, he is flanked by wolves and ravens.

Thor is the second release of the three-coin Norse Gods Series. His father, Odin, was the first release of the series, and the mischievous God of Fire, Loki, was depicted in the final issue of the collection. Thor may be the best-known god from Norse mythology, thanks in no small part to his presence in Marvel Comics and the many Marvel feature films to hit the big screen over the last decade.

Thor is shown on the reverse of 2016 2 oz Tuvalu Norse Gods Thor Silver High Relief Coins. In this design, Thor is shown wielding his powerful hammer while reaching out to grip the fang of the massive serpent known as Jormungand.

The antique finish on these coins is the result of a chemical application that gives the coins the appearance of age, without exposing the products to the rigors of handling or years of abuse in the hands of people.

Perth Mint is the oldest operating mint facility in Australia, first opened in 1899 just two years before Australia’s federation. Today, the mint is a state-owned entity of Western Australia and operates independently of the Royal Australian Mint.
