Description
These are antique Islamic Indo-Persian wooden shutters from the 19th century, Qajar period. They are painted with polychrome gul-o-bulbul (roses and nightingales) designs. The front of these rectangular-shaped shutters is decorated with urns holding a bouquet of roses and a pair of birds perching on the branches, all finely hand-painted. On the other side, a central cartouche of typical Islamic form is surrounded by roses and nightingales, flower sprays, and foliage within a large lobed medallion, all finely hand-painted.
MEASUREMENTS:
Height: 71 cm (27.95 inches)
Width: 19 cm (7.48 inches)
CONDITION: Showing age and usage, with an old patina and wear, flakes in the paint, old age vertical cracks, and some wear on the edges as consistent with its age (typical in lacquer work).
