HYPERICUM BELLUM

This rare, charming species is native to Assam, South East Tibet and South Western China and was first described in 1944. It is a hardy mostly evergreen, densely branched sub shrub with arching reddish stems and broadly ovate to almost orbicular dark green leaves. Golden yellow, anemone-like flowers to 6 cm in diameter are borne at stem tips above the foliage from early summer into autumn. Very showy but as yet scarcely available in commerce.

-Aftercare: full sun and well drained, not too dry soil; hardy to -15 C; in colder climates it needs some protection in winter;
