This is an original document, entirely in ink, in good condition as follows:
Rec'd of A.F. Stevens adm'r of C. Correll Dec'd forty Dollars which amount is audited on the note we hold against said C. Correll dec'd dated Nov. 12th 1873 amount of said note is $44.91 this May 17th 1878 C. Austin & Son.
The item is signed on the back by J.C. Huey, probate judge, indicating the expenditure had been allowed.
From other items found with this one, we know that C. Correll was Chrisitian Correll who lived in Union County, NC.  We also know fromwww.civilwardata.comthat he enlisted into the Confederate Army on 2/28/1862 as a sergeant.  He was listed as a 37 year-old mechanic.  He mustered into co. E of the 48th Infantry and ws later wounded at Fredericksburg and again at Bristoe Station in Virginia on 10/14/1863.  He was taken POW on 4/1/1865 at confined at Point Lookout, MD.  His records also indicate that he was born in Rowan County, NC.
