WAZA Craftsmanship to the Origin of Distortion

The DS-1 Distortion, the origin of distortion, reexamined by skilled engineers.

The DS-1 is a legendary pedal with a history of more than 40 years, first introduced in 1978 as BOSS's first distortion pedal. Its sharp distortion and rich sustain are truly the origin of distortion. The DS-1W features a two-stage gain circuit newly designed by skilled engineers using full analog discrete technology. In addition to the standard mode, which delivers the iconic distortion sound, the DS-1W has a custom mode that has been tuned to further exploit its possibilities, maintaining the DS-1's sonic character while delivering a powerful distortion sound with a strong midrange.

What is WAZA CRAFT?

Since the company's founding, BOSS engineers have been pursuing the best guitar sound by applying all their skills, know-how, and passion for sound to everything from analog circuit design to DSP using the most advanced digital technology. The "Waza Craft" is a compact pedal that is the crystallization of this craftsmanship. The WAZA CRAFT is equipped with analog circuits that have been painstakingly assembled by skilled engineers who have carefully selected each and every part. Made in Japan with attention to detail, the "Waza Craft" provides guitarists with a superb sound and exceptional playing comfort.

Standard Mode: The origin of distortion

In Standard Mode, you can play with the original DS-1 sound. The distortion is crisp, yet smooth, and is a sound that many guitarists love. It can be used by itself or connected to a distorted amp as a gain booster for a dynamic and beautiful distortion sound infused with the essence of the DS-1. The unique TONE knob controls both low and high frequencies at the same time, allowing you to adjust the balance of the sound range to flexibly match the band ensemble or amp you are using.

Custom Mode: A New Take on the DS-1

The DS-1W's Custom Mode maintains the sharp distortion and sustain that characterize the DS-1, while adding a new sonic character and response. The mid-range is pushed harder and has a stronger presence in band ensembles. The response when picking is quicker and reflects nuances more faithfully. The TONE knob has also been tuned specifically to take full advantage of the Custom mode's character. In addition, the LEVEL knob has an extended control range with a maximum value of +6dB compared to the standard mode. The LEVEL knob can also be used as a booster to push an amp or distortion effects pedal to its full potential.
