Rare Vintage Musical Boat Shaped Wooden Cigarette Dispenser/Box, Minor Damage
Condition note:
Mostly good condition. The artwork/marquetry is still quite clear. There is some notable damage to the bow of the boat (see last image). The music mechanism is working well (see video).
Item description:
This is an unusual, yet stunning collector item; a wooden dispenser cigeratte box in the shape of a boat. It looks Asian in style, and the marquetry design is still very visible. It is in a used condition and there is some damage to the bow of the boat - a piece of the wood has been snapped off.
The top opens up on a hinge to reveal the eight cigarette grooves inside, over two tiers. It is made totally of wood with a round base. A music box tune is played when the top is fully opened. The music mechanism is wound up by a turn-dial under the hull. It looks like a ballerina figure was once situated on a spindle near the bow of the boat. This spindle doesn't turn with the music, however.
The boat measures approximately 33cm (13") in length x 7.5cm (3") width x 8.25cm (3.25") height, and weighs 510 grams.
