Artist Biography

Erich Kips (1869 - c. 1945) was active/lived in Germany. He is known for Painting; actually Erich Conrad Leonor Friedrich Kips, German. Painter and illustrator (1869 Berlin to 1945 Berlin-Lichterfelde), first from 1887 student of the Unterrichtsanstalt am Kunstgewerbemuseum Berlin with Emil Doepler the Younger and Max Friedrich Koch, studied from 1889 at the Academy of Karlsruhe with Caspar Ritter, 1893 painted some rooms at the Chicago World's Fair and longer stay in America, then three-year study trip through Italy, 1896-97 further training at the Académie Julian in Paris with William Bouguereau, Gabriel Ferrier and Eugène Girardet, 1930 trip around the world, 1932 north country trip via Scotland, Iceland, Spitzbergen to Norway, from 1899 he was a member of the exhibitions of the Glaspalast Munich, from 1901 the Great Berlin Art Exhibition and 1940-42 the Great German Art Exhibition in the House of German Art Munich, bronze medal at the Panama-Pacific Exhibition San Francisco 1915, 1911-45 member of the Association of Berlin Artists and the Association of German Illustrators, active in Berlin-Lichterfelde
