Here is a VINTAGE GZHEL FOLK ART FIGURINE OF TWO GOSSIPING RUSSIAN WOMEN WEARING PEASANT CLOTHES HANDPAINTED COBALT BLUE .

Gzhel goes back as far as the 14th century.  Potters created pieces in their own homes.  This was so successful that 30 factories were opened outside Moscow.

In the 19th century all new pieces were painted with cobalt blue on a white background (very often with a light blue too).

You will see the Gzhel backstamp to the base of this piece which dates to between 1972-1986.

This particular piece is two Russian women standing together with their hands on their hips, presumably deep in conversation. One wears a plaid skirt with a cobalt blue top with a white dotted scarf.  The other lady has a striped skirt, white top and a cobalt blue scarf.

The item has a backstamp and a number of other marks (please see images).  Please also look at the other images as they form part of the description.

The Gzhel figurine measures approximately 5 1/4" from the base to the top of the tallest lady's scarf.

This item is in excellent condition.

Any white marks or dark areas on the images are light reflections and not flaws on the item.
