Steffi and Virginia return to Ostgut Ton with an eight-track double EP and invite you into new dimensions of their sonic world, which they have created over the course of several years. Work A Change will be released on April 20th. September 2019 in 2x12 vinyl and digital formats. Ever since their iconic 2011 collaboration Yours became a classic, the duo have experimented with new ways of expressing their own unique dancefloor melancholy. Unlike the grand maximalism otherwise associated with vocals in dance music, Steffi and Virginia's work uses voice less as a central element and more as an integral part of the groove itself, subtle in temperament and equal parts of its counterparts. Passionate vocals spiral around melodic leads and warm harmonies, a gentle kind of relaxation that sinks deeper with each listen. Work A Change transports us directly into a parallel auditory universe, eludes a fixed style and mixes multiple references into its own new formats. The opening track Be True To Me sounds understated but inviting, working its way into consciousness via harmonic glitches and a deep, groovy bass lead. Sight From Above slows things down with edgy, low-lying machine funk. The B-side Help Me Understand transports us to a completely different planet with extraterrestrial synths and active robotics. Side C opens Until Youre Begging, a molecular construction of fragmented motifs that are as precise as they are fuzzy. Internal Bleeding takes segments of percussive grooves and rearranges them into complex polyrhythms while maintaining balance. The finale is the eponymous track Work A Change: a final high-speed journey into swirling drums and hammer drill bass. Work A Change expands on Steffi and Virginia's aesthetic, blending elements from a range of genres into a cerebral, deeply personal release. It also signals the duo's departure into new territory while maintaining a distinct sound of itself.
