DELPHINIUM SEMIBARBATUM, YELLOW DELPHINIUM

A lovely species from central Asia, Iran and Afghanistan with long (35 cm)slender spikes of medium yellow flowers in summer. Finely cut leaves grow close to the ground. Unusually for a delphinium most of the flowers open simultaneously over the length of the stem.. Stems have many branches that flower later than the main stem which extends bloom time. Very hardy and undemanding. Great in back or center of the border. Excellent cut-flower. Quite easy from seeds- flowers second year from sowing. Beautiful but still rarely seen in gardens.

-Sow: any time indoors; soak the seeds for 24h in warm (not hot) water; cover well with soil (0,5 cm); germination 3-6 weeks at 10- 15C; usually germinate without problem; if no germination after 6 weeks the cooling period is needed (3-5 C) for 3 weeks;

-Aftercare: full sun and well-drained, average soil; hardy to -30 C;
