PENNISETUM ALOPECUROIDES var. VIRIDESCENS

This beautiful variety that is commonly called Black Fountain Grass or Dwarf Purple Fountain Grass is generally smaller, has broader leaves and darker flower heads than the regular species. It blooms in profusion with smoky purple-black plumes to 20 cm long in autumn that contrast nicely with the slender, arching , glossy deep green foliage. In late autumn the leaves turn wonderful shades of yellow, chartreuse and amber. It can be planted in the border, used in containers and rockeries and is very suitable for cutting (fresh or dried). The plant is a fairly tender perennial and is often grown as an annual or in containers that are overwintered indoors.
