A brief bio:

Born in Paris in 1961, Anne-Françoise Couloumy trained and completed her studies at Ecole Nationale Suprieure des Arts Dcoratifs.

Lives and works at Maison des Artistes in Charenton-le-Pont.

Began exhibiting her work in France, where enjoyed rapid recognition leading to a first exhibition in Paris in 1994 which was a huge success. Continued with sell-out shows in Paris, London and New York. There is high demand for her paintings having captured the imagination of the cultural and intellectual communities in France and beyond.

Her works hang in collections world-wide and draw comparisons with Hammershøi, Vermeer, Balthus and Hopper. There is a poignant intimacy to her work as she captures a serene silence, her use of light and attention to detail are truly exemplary, which resonates with the work of Danish artist Vilhelm Hammershøi's melancholic and highly understated oeuvre.

Anne-Françoise Couloumy was appointed to the rank of Chevalier de l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2007.
