She was a Mesopotamian goddess of love, fertility, and war, and was one of the most important deities in the Mesopotamian pantheon. Ishtar was associated with the planet Venus and was often depicted as a beautiful woman wearing a horned headdress . She was also known for her role in the story of the Descent of Inanna, in which she travels to the underworld to rescue her sister Inanna. Ishtar was worshipped throughout Mesopotamia and her influence extended into neighboring regions as well.
