Bright multicolor specimen with bands and spatters of Chondrodite (SW/UV yellow) and Diopside (SW/UV blue) and nice red "eyes" of Calcite (SW/UV red). A classic Long Lake "Galaxy Rock".
Long Lake minerals are known for their beautiful pastel colors, bright "Lightning Bolts" and spectacular starry night "Galaxy" patterns.
From the Long Lake Zinc Mine, Parham, Olden Township, Frontenac County, Ontario, Canada.
Small cabinet sized specimen - 2.7 X 2.3 X 1.6 inches
Weight - 8.1 oz
* All specimens come with a complete identification label.
Must be viewed with a short wave ( 254 nm ) ultraviolet lamp.
Pictures taken with a 12 MP camera and a 9 watt Way Too Cool short wave UV lamp.
**Important display suggestion** Since the Long Lake minerals are soft and pastel colors I have found that if they are mixed in a display with some of the bright in-your-face New Jersey minerals they do not show up well due to your eyes adapting to the brightest glow in the display. I have rearranged my display to keep the bright minerals in one area and the Long Lake minerals in another.
And, due to the subtle colorations of these minerals it is recommended that a 9 watt short wave lamp or greater be used to bring out the best colors.
