This bit is often suitable for horses with sensitive tongues or large tongues and tends to get stronger by grabbing or leaning on the bit. Signs of sensitivity include the horse shaking its head when a bit pressure is applied, the tongue sticking out of the side of the mouth, and the tongue resting on the bit.The sweet iron metal oxidizes and a sweet taste is produced which is preferred by some horses.
