Our 4" King, tournament sized chessmen are modeled after the famous Staunton Pattern chessmen designed by a famous wood turner John Jacques and registered by his associate Nathaniel Cooke on  1649.

Each Piece of this design follows a defined grammar. The sturdy rooks are designed to look like solid castles with impregnable walls, pawns are made to look minimalist with slim collars, bishops with simple mitres, the tall elegant king readily distinguished by its cross and the queen has a distinctive coronet.
