Vintage 1980s Nehi Grape Bottle Cap, Dr Pepper Bottling, Jefferson, North Carolina

They were found in an old bottling plant in Jefferson, NC in the 1990s.

Nehi was started in 1924 and it is pronounced Knee High to remind customers how tall their bottles were. Advertising usually pictured a woman with a skirt hiked up to show her stockings to the knee. Nehi was owned by the same brand back then that owned Royal Crown Cola and was called the Nehi Corporation until RC outsold everything else and in 1955 the company's official name was changed to Royal Crown Company.  Bing Crosby, Joan Crawford, Bob Hope, and Hedy Lamarr all sponsored Nehi. It was also an official sponsor of Robert Ripley's Ripley's Believe it or Not radio show. Last but not least any of us who remember watching MASH know that CPL Radar loved Nehi soda and would go to great lengths to get them.

Nehi seems to be a specialty soda now. Keurig Dr Pepper bought the company in 2008 officially and seems to be only available in limited quantities online and in very limited markets. An American Icon since the 1920s and is now almost extinct.
