Turns on an takes and ejects the tapes, but won't play them. 

When a tape is inserted a message comes up saying the 

UNIT IN SAFEGUARD MODE/EJECT AND REINSERT TAPE. 

Tried that several times but it didn't work. 

Sale is for the Camcorder only. No battery or other accessories. 

Battery was only used to show the status of the camcorder.
