Kenner PROTOTYPE Pit Droid Episode One POTF 1999 Casting From Master Mold

This comes from the personal collection of the Kenner master model maker that actually designed this toy. He called this a casting from the Master Mold. It is one of the first stages of this toy’s prototype process.

This is 1 of 1, there are no multiples / duplicates of this. It was gifted to him by Hasbro after production.

No date stamp. All pieces are guaranteed forever to be genuine.

Joints are attached together with metal connections, not the plastic pegs that you would find on a first shot. Obviously this example was never meant to physically stand on its own, and the joints are as loose as you would find in a marionette doll. It’s quite a remarkable piece. This would’ve been the stage well before any first shot was considered. I’m not really sure if you would consider this a Hardcopy or not. Frankly, I’ve never had prototypes that came directly from the model maker that sculpted them. So exact definitions are sketchy at this level. The model maker designed the parts, and made the master mold, and this casting came from that mold; then those parts were painstakingly assembled.

One foot has a stiff ankle, which I’m assuming means that it has been glued by the model maker at some point, all other parts move freely.

Final picture shows you what the production piece looked like ( the auction does NOT include a production piece… only the prototype)
