They are the 1st Brigade of the 6th Infantry Division (Light), the Arctic Warriors, and they are the only arctic infantry brigade in the U.S. Army. They are, as their motto proudly proclaims, 'Arctic tough -- Combat Ready!'

Unit pride runs deep within the Arctic Warrior Brigade, many of its units have won distinguished places in the annals of American Military history. The 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, the 'Geronimo' Battalion, was the first airborne battalion ever organized by the U.S. Military. The 'Geronimo' Battalion is also the nations only Arctic Airborne Battalion.

For today's Arctic Warrior, excellence is the standard and anything else is unacceptable. Highly disciplined, the Brigade often exceeds the Army's strictest requirements for leadership, combat readiness, and soldier deportment. They are stationed in Alaska year round and their mission is to maintain battle readiness for 'contingency operations within the Pacific theater and elsewhere as directed.' Ever true to their heritage, the Arctic Warrior Brigade still mans the outpost, protecting settlements on the edge of civilization.
