Golden State Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent 1 oz Silver Round

This beautiful 1 oz silver round issued by Golden State Mint (GSM) captures the fascinating history of the United States penny.  In 1909, the Indian Head cent was replaced with this beloved Lincoln cent design.

The public instantly objected to the initials of the designer, Victor David Brenner being displayed so prominently on the coin's reverse.  The mint swiftly reacted to negative public reaction, removing the initials (VDB) from the coin. As a result, less than 28 million coins were struck with this original design.  Even fewer still, only 484,000, were struck in the San Francisco Mint.  Thus, these rare Lincoln wheat cents became some of the most rare and desired coins ever stuck by the United States Mint.
