Most people know about OZ from the 1939 MGM classic movie, starring Judy Garland. But the true story of OZ started with the first book, THE WIZARD OF OZ, by L. Frank Baum, published in 1900. He wrote thirteen more books in the series until his death in 1919. The series was then continued by a number of other people.

The "white editions / white cover" books were published in the 1960s. Unfortunately, they do not specify an exact year  or indicate which number edition or printing they are. To further confuse the matter, they reproduce the copyright pages of the original editions with those copyright years, leading some to believe the are much older editions.

I cannot pin-point the exact year of this edition, but I can tell you that this book was purchased in 1970 as part of a set of the thirteen sequels. I was in high school at the time. Although I had not read the Oz books as a child, several of my book-loving friends had and they recommended them to me. When I had the chance to buy all thirteen as new books, I took the plunge, which turns out to have been one of the best book purchases I ever made! This set has moved with me numerous times, even cross-country. But as I turn seventy, I want them to find happy new homes.

TIK-TOK OF OZ

written by L. FRANK BAUM

cover art and interior art by JOHN R. NEILL

The 8th book in this wonderful series that chronicles Dorothy's adventures in the marvelous land of Oz, where she now lives permanently. In her wanderings, she discovers a mechanical man, Tik-Tok, who proves to be a very helpful companion.

Profusely illustrated by John R. Neill, who illustrated all of Baum's OZ books except the very first one. The end papers show many of the amazing people and creatures he brought to pictorial life from Baum's verbal descriptions.

This was bought new and in very good condition. I take excellent care of my books in my smoke-free environment.

Please see photos to get a sense of the terrific condition and wonderful art.

In my youthful enthusiasm, I did lay claim to the book by means of 1) a bookplate with the image of "Reading Picture Books in Winter" by Jessie Wilcox Smith and 2) the imprint of a Chinese "chop" (like a rubber stamp) in red ink

The publisher did choose a good quality paper because it has aged very nicely - NO spots of age discoloration at all.

I am happy to combine shipping to save my buyers money. Books can easily be combined and pack well together. Media mail is a very affordable rate offered by the USPS. Cost is based solely on weight and does not vary with distance. If buying multiple books, please put them in your cart and then "request total from seller". I will then send you an invoice with an adjusted shipping cost.

However, I have been told that if you are ordering from a phone, it may not be possible to request such a total. If that is your situation, please go ahead and pay the shipping as billed. Then, when I process your order, I will calculate the difference between shipping paid versus actual cost, and refund you any difference.
