Edelweiss - Type 4 Heer silver wire

Description

Quality Reproduction Edelweiss Trade Badge for Gebirgsjager

On May 1939 the High Command authorized the wear of the Edelweiss badge for Mountain Troop personnel to be worn on the upper right sleeve of the service dress and field uniforms.

The design of the badge was based on a badge worn by the WWI German Alpine Corps. The badge was originally designed on a blue/green badge cloth base, but in 1940 this was changed to a field-grey wool base to match that of the field uniforms.

The trade badge was originally to be removed if the solder transferred out of his Mountain Troop unit but this was largely ignored and was reversed in 1944 and as long as the solder had experience serving with a Gebirgsjager unit then they were entitled to wear the patch.

This is the Officer's version of the patch and is made from hand-embroidered bullion wire on a field grey wool base.
