In 1886 the German entrepreneur Jacob Jessen opened the second largest porcelain factory at JaunmTlgravis. For a long time both differently named factories worked side by side, until they were united in 1963 to form the bases of the Riga Porcelain and Faience Factory, afterwards renamed - the Riga Porcelain Factory.
