Approx. 110mm high, 110mm wide and 60mm deep.

This replica of the Malvern Green Man was made in England, from an original miniature by Herefordshire stone masons and craftsmen, Martin and Oliver Webb. The intricate design has been painstakingly hand carved to faithfully reproduce the fine details of the original piece; from this carving  accurate casts were made, having the look, feel, weight and weather resistance of real stone. Each plaque is hand made and finished, using fine ground stone combined with resin to reproduce an authentic stone effect. They have a hole on the rear for wall hanging, have black baize backing and are supplied in a smart red presentation box. Each piece has accompanying information about the original carving, with a label on the rear of the product and also a card in the box. The plaque is frost proof and suitable for outdoor use.

This handsome bearded fellow formed the boss between eight converging vaulting ribs, his boldly carved foliage, springing in four separate sprigs, curves over and between the ribs to produce a pleasing symmetrical design accentuated by the four prominent "eyes" of folded foliage. Nothing is known about this Green Man, but the carving style is suggestive of 15th century work. Nowadays, long removed from his original location, he lives in a private garden.

The Green man

The term Green Man, or Jack O' the Green, has been applied to an amazing array of images of the human form sprouting, or combining with, foliage. He is though to represent fertility and regeneration, but his sometimes stern expression serves to remind us that nature itself is not always totally benign.

Although the Green Man's image is not the sole preserve of the Church, the vast majority of them are to be found in churches and cathedrals. His proliferation there is a mystery, frequently appearing more than once in any particular church, yet he is not fundamental to Christianity.

The Green Man is one of the most ancient and most pagan of all symbols to be found in Christian churches, his origins are entwined inextricably with Paganism and folk lore. No one knows the enigmatic Green Man's actual origin or age. He remains mysteriously swathed in foliage and cloaked in silence.
