The case holds the camera bodies, the motor drives, and lenses in a unique shock-resistant compartment with a flap pocket and side pockets for filters, accessories, and memory cards.
The case was Leica’s choice as their camera case when they promoted their best of the best camera and lenses!

An original Ghurka gear bag, the Grip, was introduced in 1980. To introduce you to this awesome Ghurka camera bag, let me share the story of this bag from the creator, Marley Hodgson himself. Marley explained how Ghurka made this fabulous bag in one of our corresponding emails. Here are Marley’s words:
“Before I sign off, here is one about The Grip #35.
Sometime in 1980 the Leica Camera Company contacted me to design and make a limited edition of 40 special Ghurka camera bags, as part of a joint marketing program with Mercedes-Benz, who was planning to introduce a new super-special car in 1981. Each bag was going to contain the latest Leica camera, along with extensive photo equipment. Each “loaded” bag would be placed in the trunk of the first 40 cars sold worldwide (I was told the value of each gift including the Ghurka bag was around $11,000).
When Leica and Mercedes received the first bag (and cost) they were delighted, and didn’t ask for a single change.
I’m not sure the 40 cars were sold directly from Stuttgart or allocated to different countries.

This is our 6th Ghurka Grip bag we offer for sale and one of our best ones! The case has been used with care and is in excellent condition. The inside is as clean as day one! We rated the inside conditions 9.5 and outside 8.4, and overall 8.9 out of perfect 10! This particular style does not become available online often in this fantastic condition, so this is the chance to make it yours!
The GRIP is the quintessential Ghurka camera case, a true classic, along with the other Ghurka camera case: the Grip carried by some of the most well-known photographers such as Yousuf (Hovsep) Karsh, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Brian Duffy, Arnold Newman, O Winston Link, Richard Avedon, and Eve Arnold! The Ghurka GRIP bag, with its roomy and secured interior, is almost twice more significant as the other Ghurka camera bag, the Rangefinder, keeping your camera and lenses safe; it is the Rolls-Royce of safari camera case as it was sold for $795 plus tax back in 1980, (the equivalent of over $3600 today), lot of value for the period! And pro photographers were lined up to get one! The Grip has a large extended front compartment with flap closure and is secured with point taps locking, extended zipper pockets on each side, and zip-around closure with push lock closure on top. This case has thick cowhide leather in the bottom with four brass feet for extra protection. A unique adjustable cushion design is inside to fit your camera and lenses inside. The long and wide adjustable shoulder strap makes this bag easy to carry. Great photography tool with a touch of Indiana Jones, a safari look of severe photographers!

Founded in Connecticut in 1975 by luxury belt and brace designer Marley Hodgson, Ghurka has served as a symbol of superior American leather craftsmanship for over thirty years.
The origins of the Ghurka brand can be traced back to a fortuitous discovery at a British auction house in the early 1970s. Inspired by his love of history and leather craft, Hodgson bid on campaign travel gear and leather boots formerly owned by a British Ghurka officer stationed in India at the turn of the 20th century. He was so impressed by the quality of the nearly century-old leather – durable yet supple despite its age – and by the intricate craftsmanship that he was compelled to launch a line of comparable leather accessories. Hodgson tracked down the lost tanning formula for these boots and other accouterments carried by the legendary Ghurka regiments and applied the manufacturing process to his new collection ".
