Jodocus Hondius (1563-1612) map of Iaponia, early 17th
century map of the islands of Japan, first issued as one of the new maps in
Mercator Hondius Atlas of 1606. Also features Korea as an elongated island and
the three main islands of Japan. Decoration includes sea monsters, a Japanese
junk and a Dutch galleon.
Map shown measures 17 ½” x 13 ½”. Gold toned frame is 25 ¼”
x 21 ¾”.
Note: there are some reflections in the glass.
Overall shows very nice. Some light smears & stains.
Normal center fold, small fold upper right. Tear piece upper left.
