This is a very, very rare early zine by Ron Quintana that features a very Early interview with a young Lars Urlich upon their release of Kill 'Em All.

I can't find this for sale anywhere on line, but it was purchased as a collector's item back in the early 2000s. The mag is in great condition. The staples have become a bit loose towards the middle pages, but all pages are completely in tact.

Here's the only thing I could find written about it on an auction site:

RON QUINTANA'S METAL MANIA MAGAZINE #12 FROM 1983 METALLICA YNGWIE VENOM SAXON

Those of you who are true fans of heavy metal - especially thrash metal - and its history certainly know the name Ron Quintana. Affectionately known as "The Man Who Named Metallica", he played a huge part in promoting the San Francisco Bay Area heavy metal scene that produced such legendary bands that we all know and love - Metallica, Exodus, Testament, Death Angel, Possessed, Heathen, Violence, etc., etc.

He was featured in VH1's "Metallica: Behind The Music", and has been thanked on countless metal records by countless metal bands. He has produced a weekly six-hour metal radio show - "Rampage Radio" - on KUSF in San Francisco for 30 years, and in his spare time put out this excellent metal magazine in the 80s!Throughout the 1980s, Metal Mania was published by Ron Quintana with photos and assistance by Mike Meals (Dead Jacksons) and the team who brought you the incredible new book Murder In The Front Row - Brian Lew and Harald Oimen (now bass player for DRI).

This issue of Metal Mania features Ron's interview with Lars Ulrich of Metallica right after the release of Kill 'Em All, and interviews with Cronos from Venom, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Biff Byford of Saxon. It also has a great article on the Japan metal scene and concert reviews of Iron Maiden/Saxon/Fastway in Portland, Oregon and Queensryche in Seattle, Washington.

Ron Quintana .The famous heavy metal promoter and DJ .Ron Quintana is a famous for thinking out the name “Metallica”. In 1981 he asks his friend Lars Ulrich what would be the best title for his new heavy metal fanzine – “Metal Mania” or “Metallica”. Ulrich suggests the first one as the better only because he likes more the second and wants to keep it as a name for his new band.
The band name came from Ulrich's friend Ron Quintana, who was brainstorming names for a fanzine and was considering MetalMania or Metallica. After hearing the two names, Ulrich wanted Metallica for his band, so he suggested Quintana use MetalMania instead.
