Artist Biography
Patrick Ryan (1934 - 2006) was active/lived in Nebraska. He is known for Prints, impressionist land-seascape, garden painting often under the alias of Henri Plisson.
Impressionist painter, was also known by the pseudonym of "Henri Plisson".  He adopted a second name as his style changed dramatically from abstract to impressionism, and he sold his art both in America and Europe through a number of galleries. He chose to keep his professional identities separate, as his price structure changed within his collectors'  markets. (Many other artists have done this to sell paintings outside of their contracts with galleries, etc.)Patrick Joseph Ryan was born Feb. 17, 1934, in Omaha, NE, and aspired to be an artist as a child.  He pursued his passion as he grew up, eventually earning his bachelor's degree at the University of Nebraska, Omaha. Thereafter, he got his master's degree in fine art at the University of Southern California.  After finishing school, he traveled in Spain for almost two years painting and absorbing Europe's rich art history.  hen he returned to America, he began exhibiting his painting through the Deville Gallery in Beverly Hills, CA, and his work was discovered and purchased by celebrities, including: Gene Kelly, Rock Hudson, Katherine Ross, and Aaron Spelling.  At this time, he was painting exclusively as "Patrick Ryan" and his career reached its height - painting impressionistic oils of landscapes, beachscapes, and gardens.Ryan's work was in high demand, and he chose to published numerous serigraph and limited edition silk-screen prints of his impressionistic works through Colville Publishing in the 1980s, to broaden his market.  Patrick moved nearby his publisher, moving to San Diego, La Jolla, Vista, and Tieerasanta at various times during this active period, as he also continued to travel internationally for inspiration and variety for his paintings'  subject matter.  Patrick Ryan was quoted by the American Design LTD gallery as saying, "If a painting is too finished, too exact, it poses limitations on your ability to see it.  The image freezes, limiting your illusion.  Better to paint the effect of what is there so someone observing the canvas will see the effect of what you saw, not the subject matter you saw. In essence, what you are doing in impressionism is focusing on one thing, but you are painting another. I am painting a visual echo of what I see."
Patrick Ryan's (A.K.A. Henri Plisson) paintings are represented in numerous important corporate and private collections internationally.
