"NAMU" THE WHALE, The Only Killer Whale in Captivity. Whales get their name because they are the only animal that kill just for the fun of killing. "Namu" was captured on June 23rd, 1965 off  the reef near Namu, British Columbia. "Namu" weighs 4 tons and is 22 feet in length. No visit to Seattle is complete without seeing "NAMU" THE WHALE. (Circa 1965)

Age at Capture:

10+ years old

Namu died:

July 9, 1966 in the Seattle Marine Aquarium.

Cause of Namu' death:

Namu died due to an infection from polluted water in his pen. He had only survived 11 months in captivity
