Vintage Fiber Optic Color Changing Lamp retro mod 1960s 1970s READ DESCRIPTION

For your consideration is this cool, truly vintage fiber optic color changing table lamp. It came from an estate with other mid century items so my guess is circa 1960s-70s.

The lamp is supposed to change colors on the fiber optics but the interior color wheel mechanism that is supposed to spin as the heat from the bulb rises (and therefore change the colors) is missing pieces to successfully work. The pieces you see in the pictures are all included (they were inside the lamp when I bought it)...I think the prior owner tried to jerry-rig it using some of the metal rods you see but I was not able to successfully get the wheel to rotate even when balanced just above the bulb...hopefully you can have greater success.

So your option is to just set it on the color you like and enjoy it as is or do your own repairs to get it back to the working condition. A similar chrome lamp with the working color changer recently sold for over $500 so my opening bid reflects the current condition

Approximately 8.75” tall without the fibers and 19” with the fibers.

The brown sphere body /orb is 6” in diameter. Not sure exactly what it's made of but seems to be coated in some sort of texturized brown painted plastic or resin over metal. It opens near the base of the orb in order to change the bulb and access the color wheel mechanism.

The fiber optics are made of glass and are in EXCELLENT condition but will need a bit of primping to have them fan out for a more uniform appearance. I was able to do so as shown in some of the pics.

It will only weigh a few pounds packed safely and I will remove the fiber optics and wrap in bubble wrap separately to protect them.

Local pickup near Boston more than welcome! Thank you!
