What is a jinhasa?
A flat conical hat worn to protect the head as a substitute for a helmet. It was
made of thin iron, leather, paper, etc., and the surface was coated with lacquer.
It was one of the tools lent by the master to his retainers. It was marked with
the family crest so that it could
be distinguished during actual battles.
In the Edo period (1603-1867), the use of jinhasa for official duties of warriors
increased, and the number of jinhasa increased not only in terms of functionality
but also in terms of aesthetics.
