Description:
Presented is a wonderful statue bust depicting a beautiul Art Nouveau young woman as a Siren. In Greek mythology, sirens are humanlike beings with alluring voices; they appear in a scene in the Odyssey in which Odysseus saves his crew's lives. The word "Sirene" is written in the base in large Art Nouveau script.
The sculpture is signed "Zollé" - he was a French artist of Art Nouveau times. Little is known about him - he seems to be the author of two sculpture works - "Sirene" and "Nimphe".
The ladies bust sculptures were a huge part of Art Nouveau movement. Such artists as Van der Straeten, Emmanuele Villanis, Alphons Nelson, Alfred Foretay, Victor Seifert and many others were creating this very popular (and commercially successful) sculptures in bronze and less expensive bronzed metal.
The statue is made of solid cast bronze - very nicely cast with wonderful appearance. Excellent condition with no damage or repairs.
The statue is quite elegant and impressive. It stands 7.5" tall, quite heavy - weighs about 7 lb.
Please note - this is the real statue from the Art Nouveau period - not a modern reproduction.
