Scarce issue of Esquire magazine from Spain.

Featuring a rarely seen syndication of the original and iconic April 1968 US issue of Esquire, from the famous the photo session with Ali.

This is from the controversial Muhammad Ali photo shoot that led to him being stripped of his heavyweight title and banned from fighting.  The image depicts Ali as Saint Sebastian who was martyred after converting to Christianity. Tied to a stake and shot at with 6 arrows, he survived, went out into the street and helped a blind girl regain her sight by converting her to Christianity.  The idea for this shot came about after Ali refused to join the US Army’s fight in the Vietnam War because of his recent conversion to Islam.  Original cover design by art director George Lois and Carl Fischer.

This issue was printed in Espana in the early 2010's.  There's a 4 page feature on Ali which includes 2 pages of interview.
